Vineyards trial – dramatic effect of the treatments on potential yield in 2020

Last year (2019) trials have shown the Non treated control (weeds mowed regularly in the season) underperformed significantly when compared to the two mechanical weeders and herbicide treatments with a reduction by 20-30% in leaf area and Nutritional Balance Index. This results in a 30-40% decrease in the number of inflorescences this year, highlighting the importance of weed control to reduce competition for water and nutrients, even in our relatively wet climate.

Effect of the treatments carried in the IWMPRAISE project on the number of inflorescences in 3-years-old Chardonnay vines.
